About Aptitude Tests

Taking stock of your talents, and finding out about yourself, is worth a few minutes of your time and could change your life. Aptitude can well be defined as an inherent ability or talent to learn or acquire new skills.

What it measures:

An aptitude test attempts to measure whether the concerned person or applicant has the skills necessary to learn a new set of tasks.
Aptitudes can be as varied as aptitude for a career in IT, to dog breeding, to aptitude for becoming a detective

How these tests help:

An aptitude test can help a student decide his future course of action, or a parent to chart out his child's career path. It can help a parent know why the child seems bogged down or under performs at school. You can also get insight whether your hobby can become a career choice.

In an organization, aptitude tests are commonly used for entry-level jobs as well as for internal recruitment from other divisions within an organization for the purposes of retraining.

The benefits are endless, but the result of such testing has to be perceived in light of a few other criteria such as existing educational institutions and social infrastructure, availability of funds to pursue a career choice, work experience, etc.

Remember, positive attitude makes a difference!

The other side of Aptitude Testing

Take the prospective employees you are trying to place and put them in a room with only a table and two chairs. Leave them alone for two hours, without any instruction. At the end of that time, go back and see what they are doing.
  • If they have taken the table apart, put them in Engineering.
  • If they are counting the butts in the ashtray, assign them to Finance.
  • If they are waving their arms and talking out loud, send them to Consulting.
  • If they are talking to the chairs, Personnel is a good spot for them.
  • If they are wearing green sunglasses and need a haircut, Computer Information Systems is their niche.
  • If they mention that hardwood furniture DOES NOT come from rain forests, Public Relations would suit them well.
  • If they are sleeping, they are Management material.
  • If they try to tell you it's not as bad as it looks, send them to Marketing.
